New Developments in Palworld: Discussions on the Live Service Model
New developments continue for Palworld, a game featuring Pokémon-like creatures that has turned Steam’s charts upside down since its release. The game stands out with both its graphics quality and gameplay dynamics. Now, the game’s developer Pocketpair team is evaluating various aspects of transitioning to a live service model to advance the game further.
Challenges of the Live Service Model
In an interview with ASCII.jp, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe was asked about the long-term plans for the future of Palworld. Mizobe stated that they are uncertain whether the game will be completely free and whether it will transition to a live service structure over time. In this context, he expressed the following:
- “Honestly, a definitive decision has not been made at this time. It is unclear whether transitioning to a live service model would be beneficial for our studio and whether we would see a return on this effort.”
- “However, the game was not designed with this approach in mind from the very beginning. Therefore, transitioning to a live service gameplay style will bring many challenges.”
Additionally, it is emphasized that since the game is currently sold at a certain price, if it becomes free-to-play in the future, players who paid for the game might react negatively. As a result, it is stated that there are many significant concerns.
