Residents of Tulkarm, a city situated in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, surveyed the aftermath of a recent Israeli military raid on Saturday. The operation has not only wreaked havoc on local infrastructure, damaging roads, but has also instigated sudden outbreaks of violence, leaving many Palestinians in a state of shock and distress. The Israeli military has intensified its actions in various parts of the territory, raising concerns that the ongoing conflict with Palestinian militant groups could escalate further.

This week, hundreds of Israeli soldiers moved into northern West Bank cities, utilizing columns of armored vehicles and bulldozers. They engaged in clashes with militants, resulting in many residents being trapped in their homes, deprived of essential services such as running water and internet connectivity. A particularly harrowing account emerged from one family who reported that a relative suffering from mental illness was shot dead during the incursion, with his body left unattended for several hours amidst the chaos.

In the Nur Shams neighborhood, which became a focal point of the military operation, residents and workers busily cleared away the debris and dirt that had been displaced by Israeli bulldozers searching for improvised explosive devices. Suleiman Zuhairi, a local resident and retired official in the Palestinian Authority, commented on the situation: “The streets are so obstructed that cars can no longer pass. Everyone is navigating on foot, as dirt has been piled up into massive mounds.”

As of Friday, Israeli troops had largely withdrawn from Tulkarm, but they continued their operations in the volatile city of Jenin, located in the northern West Bank. Meanwhile, two separate incidents occurring further south have raised alarms that the violence may be escalating. According to the Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry, at least 22 Palestinians have lost their lives since the military campaign began on Wednesday. Many of those killed have been identified by militant groups as their members, while Israeli sources claim that at least 20 of the deceased were militants.
