Google, widely known for its search engine and consumer internet services, is on the verge of its most significant acquisition yet to enhance its offerings for business clientele. In recent discussions, Google has shown interest in acquiring Wiz, a cybersecurity start-up based in New York. Sources familiar with the talks, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Wiz was last valued at an impressive $12 billion.

The proposed deal between Google and Wiz is estimated to be approximately $23 billion, marking it as Google’s most expensive acquisition to date, nearly doubling the amount paid for Motorola Mobility in 2012. While the deal appears promising, there is still a possibility of the discussions falling through, caution the insiders.

Although Google and Wiz have not officially commented on the matter, reports from The Wall Street Journal indicate ongoing negotiations between the two companies. Google seems determined to proceed with the acquisition despite potential regulatory challenges that could arise. The tech giant is keen on strengthening its cloud-computing division, which currently trails behind competitors like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

It is noteworthy that Google is currently facing legal action from the Justice Department in two separate antitrust cases – one focusing on its dominant search engine and the other aiming to dismantle its digital advertising-technology business. A ruling on the search case is expected later this year.
