A Journey into Parenthood: The Story of Amy Cubbage and June
Amy Cubbage’s adventure into motherhood began as it has for countless American families: within the confines of a hotel room in China. In 2008, Amy and her husband, Graham Troop, experienced a life-changing moment when they were introduced to their newly adopted daughter, a spirited 2-year-old named Qin Shuping. She had been living with a caring foster family in the picturesque southern city of Guilin.
After enduring a lengthy waiting period of over two years to be matched with a child, the couple from Louisville, Kentucky, finally held their daughter in their arms. However, the reality of the situation soon set in. In that hotel room, surrounded by unfamiliar surroundings, the little girl was inconsolable, her tears a poignant reminder of the upheaval she was experiencing.
“I cried because I was like, ‘What have we done to this child?’” Amy recalled, reflecting on the emotional turmoil of that moment.
Fast forward more than fifteen years, and the once-timid toddler has blossomed into June Cubbage-Troop, an energetic freshman at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Now a member of the university’s acrobatics and tumbling team, June is thriving in her new environment.
“I used to think about my birth parents, but not really anymore because I’m happy and I love my parents,” June, now 18, expressed with a sense of contentment. “I’m pretty content with my life.” Her journey signifies not only the resilience of a young girl who overcame the challenges of early childhood separation but also the joy that comes from finding a loving family.
As June embarks on her collegiate journey, her story serves as a reminder of the transformative power of love and family. She embodies the strength and determination that can emerge from even the most challenging beginnings.
