Everything You Need to Know About the Upcoming Emmys Ceremony
In a remarkable turn of events, it has been just eight months since the strike-delayed Emmys ceremony took place in January, and now the television industry is preparing to celebrate itself once again. For the first time in the illustrious 75-year history of the Emmys, viewers will witness two awards shows occurring in the same calendar year. Here’s how to tune in on Sunday:
What Time Does the Show Start?
The ceremony is set to kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (5 p.m. Pacific) and will be hosted at the iconic Peacock Theater located in downtown Los Angeles. Unlike the often unpredictable Oscars, the Emmys are known for sticking to a schedule, typically wrapping up in about three hours.
Where Can I Watch?
ABC is the official broadcaster for this year’s ceremony, making it easily accessible for anyone with network television. However, if you prefer to stream, the options become a bit more complex. Numerous streaming services, including YouTube TV and Fubo, offer ABC, but a subscription is required for access. Additionally, the Emmys will eventually be available for streaming on Hulu, but with one significant caveat: the ceremony won’t be accessible until the following Monday.
What’s Eligible?
This year, the eligibility window includes shows that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024. As a result, the second season of the critically acclaimed The Bear, which debuted last year, is nominated for Sunday’s event rather than the third season, which premiered just three months ago. Leading the nominations this year are Shogun with 25 nominations and The Bear closely following with 23.
Who’s Hosting?
The dynamic father-and-son duo of Dan and Eugene Levy, known for their groundbreaking series Schitt’s Creek, will take the reins as hosts. Award show aficionados will recognize the Levys, as Schitt’s Creek made history by sweeping the Emmys in September 2020, a ceremony held virtually due to the pandemic. Notably, Dan Levy became the first performer to collect an impressive four Emmys during a prime-time broadcast, winning in categories such as writing, directing, best supporting actor, and best comedy.
When Is the Red Carpet?
The excitement begins with the red carpet, where the cable network E! will air a pre-show starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Time. This segment will be hosted by the talented Laverne Cox, comedian Heather McMahan, and E! host Keltie Knight. Meanwhile, ABC will also showcase its own red carpet event, kicking off at 7 p.m. Eastern, featuring veteran anchor Robin Roberts and ABC News correspondent Will Reeve as the hosts.
