Samsung Electronics’ Major Layoff Plans

The year 2024 could be a period when many large companies take steps to reduce their workforce, and there are reports suggesting that Samsung Electronics may be among these companies. According to information from unnamed sources cited by Reuters, Samsung plans to reduce its global sales and marketing workforce by 15%. Additionally, there are discussions about cutting its administrative staff by up to 30%. These layoffs are expected to be carried out by the end of 2024.

Currently, there is no clear information on how many employees will be affected by Samsung’s layoff decision. However, in a statement regarding the matter, the company mentioned that the “workforce adjustments” in its operations are routine procedures. It also stated that these adjustments are not being made for a specific business objective and will not affect any members of Samsung’s production team.

According to Reuters, at the end of 2023, Samsung had a total of 267,800 employees, of which 147,000 were located abroad. The sales and marketing personnel consisted of 25,100 people, while another 27,800 employees worked in areas outside of manufacturing.

On the other hand, some unverified rumors have emerged claiming that Samsung plans to launch a special version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and a budget-friendly Galaxy S24 FE smartphone in the upcoming period. Additionally, there are reports that the company will soon unveil its Galaxy Tab S10 series tablets. Leaks are also available regarding the Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphone series, which could be released in early 2025. Furthermore, there are ongoing reports that the company is working on the long-awaited Samsung mixed reality headset.
