OPPO A60: Durability Claims and Features
Occasionally, brands make bold claims regarding their phones, and most of these claims revolve around the durability of the devices. OPPO’s new model A60 has a striking claim in this regard: OPPO asserts that the A60 is unbreakable. This assertion caught attention, especially after posts on social media, particularly on Instagram. In a promotional video from OPPO’s Instagram account, we see a nail being hammered into a wall with this phone. Of course, we do not have definitive information about the material of the wall used or the type of nail, but this image looks truly impressive. So, we decided to test this claim. OPPO positively responded to our request and sent us the phone. However, before this test, we need to take a look at the other features of the phone.
OPPO A60 Design and Display
OPPO A60 falls into the category of affordable smartphones and is positioned between entry-level and mid-range. This phone stands out with its design, and the color we have is Night Purple; there is also a Wave Blue color option available. The phone has a weight of 186 grams and a thickness of 7.7 mm. Additionally, it has an IP54 water and dust resistance certification, meaning it is resistant to splashes but remember that it should not be submerged in water. Its body is made of plastic material, which provides an advantage in terms of durability. If it had a glass structure, it could have broken more easily. OPPO is also assertive about the durability of the display; we see that a protective band is used on the screen, which increases its robustness.
The phone’s display is 6.67 inches in size and has a screen-to-body ratio of %89.9. The side bezels are quite thin. On the right side, there is a power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor and volume buttons just above it. Speakers are located at the top and bottom edges of the screen; this provides a stereo sound experience. This enhances the experience when watching videos or playing games with the device held sideways. The screen consists of an IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1604×720 pixels. While it would be nice not to see a 720p display in terms of resolution, it is possible to set the screen’s refresh rate to 60Hz or 90Hz. The screen can reach a brightness level of 950 nits. Additionally, there is a claim that the screen can be used with wet hands; we will also test this during the testing phase.
OPPO A60 Performance
The phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 680 processor. Although this processor, produced with 6 nm technology, was released in 2021, it remains a preferred option. This 8-core processor is quite sufficient for entry/mid-level users. It offers reliable performance for web browsing and general phone usage. However, it may not be sufficient alone for future needs. To support this, OPPO offers Trinity Engine optimization. Trinity Engine is a technology that provides extra performance gains in the processor, RAM, and storage areas. This way, the device tracks which resources it needs instantaneously and allocates the necessary resources. Additionally, considering the phone has 8GB of RAM, it provides a sufficient capacity for running modern applications smoothly.
There is also good news for gaming enthusiasts; the phone’s GPU is based on Adreno 610, which operates at a speed of 1115 MHz. This GPU may not be the fastest graphic processor available today, but we know that the gaming performance is satisfactory. Popular games like PUBG can be played comfortably. Additionally, it should be noted that the phone comes with either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. Another area where OPPO is assertive with the A60 is performance; they emphasize that it will not lose its “smoothness feeling” for 4 years. This means users claim they will experience a “like-new” phone for 4 years. This 48-month “smoothness protection” has been validated by laboratory tests. Although it is not immediately possible to verify this, the claim is notable.
OPPO A60 Battery Life
There is also support that improves the power consumption of this processor. Thus, OPPO A60 can operate all day without needing a charge under normal use. The phone’s 5000 mAh battery capacity offers approximately 15 hours of video playback time. OPPO also claims that the battery will function smoothly for 4 years. However, it should not be forgotten that Li-ion batteries tend to degrade over time as they discharge. Therefore, it is important to charge the phone’s battery before it drops below 20%. The longer the battery remains charged, the longer its lifespan will be. Additionally, it should be noted that the charger included in the box has a power of 45W.
OPPO A60 Camera Features
For those who love to take photos and videos, OPPO A60 offers impressive cameras. The main camera has a resolution of 50 MP. The secondary camera on the back has a resolution of 2 MP. The absence of an ultra-wide camera weakens the phone’s claim in this regard; however, successful results can be achieved in daylight photos. You can record videos with the rear camera at a maximum resolution of 1080P and 30 fps. The front selfie camera has a resolution of 8 MP. While this resolution is somewhat weak, it is sufficient for an entry-level phone. You can also record videos at 30 fps and 1080P resolution with the front camera. An interesting feature is that both the front and rear cameras can record simultaneously, providing a useful option for those wanting to make vlogs or live streams.
OPPO A60 Durability Test
OPPO’s claim states that the screen will not break. This phone has a MIL-STD 810H certification; meaning it has been tested to withstand difficult conditions such as drops and impacts. The promotional video shows a nail being hammered into the wall with the screen, but there is no definitive information about the material used. Therefore, we thought of conducting a more organic test by hammering a nail into a tree instead of a wall. We made sure that this nail is made of copper, so it would not damage the tree. During the test, I have a prediction that the phone will break, but we will not push it to the limit; as our goal is not to break the phone, but to test the screen’s durability while hammering this nail. Let’s start hammering now…
You can see the tests conducted with OPPO A60 in our video just above.
Conclusion
Yes, the result is quite clear. The OPPO A60 is indeed as durable as it is claimed to be. More detailed results can be obtained when different tests are conducted, but in general, hammering a nail with a phone screen is not a situation encountered in daily life. What matters is how resistant the screen is to impacts it may receive. As a result, you have a phone that is resistant to drops and impacts in your hands. It has also proven to be a quite successful model with the other features we mentioned throughout the review. The price is set at 11,999 TL. In this respect, the OPPO A60 could be a good choice for those looking for an affordable and durable phone.
