Developments After Android 15 and Android 16

While Android 15 has yet to be released for users, news about Android 16 has already started to surface. Google may be planning significant revisions, particularly in notifications and the Quick Settings menu, with Android 16.

Researchers have discovered code snippets containing clues about some features of Android 16 while thoroughly examining the latest Android 15 QPR beta version. Currently, if you are using a Pixel phone, you can see all your notifications along with four Quick Settings tiles when you swipe down from the top of the screen. This dropdown menu completely covers the app running underneath, affecting the user experience. In the current version, you need to perform a second swipe to access the Quick Settings tiles.

New Method for Accessing Quick Settings

In the newly discovered version, it is stated that users will open the notifications panel by swiping down with one finger, but the Quick Settings will not be displayed. Additionally, this dropdown menu will only cover the top half of the phone’s screen, allowing you to continue seeing the app you are running underneath. To access the Quick Settings panel, however, a two-finger swipe will be required.

In this new design, users will need to swipe left or right to reach additional Quick Settings tiles. However, this may pose practical issues and generate reactions for some users. It remains to be seen whether Google will implement this design in 2026 or prefer to revise and change the current design.
