Electric Vehicle Adventure in the Arctic

A group of adventurous friends is currently exploring near the Arctic Circle with two Tesla Cybertrucks. The aim of this bold journey is to travel from Dawson City in Yukon to the Northwest Territories to see the Arctic Ocean. In fact, these adventurers started their journey from Florida and have embarked on this challenging trip by crossing both the US and Canada from south to north with their Cybertrucks.

The group is reaching a wide audience by sharing their adventures on social media platforms. They also established a website called Arctic CyberTrek that narrates this journey. Through this site, they are selling t-shirts and stickers to fund the adventure. However, from their videos, it is evident that North America’s EV (electric vehicle) charging infrastructure is not yet developed enough to support such adventures.

The team expressed their goals and excitement in a social media post stating, “We have been planning this for two years, what we are about to do will make history. We will show what electric vehicles are capable of“. They are also highlighting the challenges of traveling long distances with electric vehicles by recording a video at each charging point.

The team has to stop for charging approximately every two to three hours, and the charging durations and processes at these stops vary significantly. For example, Tesla’s proprietary superchargers are an ideal charging station for this journey, but they are not available everywhere. After a certain point in the north, these charging stations completely disappear.

The adventurous team is facing challenges due to different charging standards; they have to wait during charging times, and finding the necessary adapters becomes a significant issue. Therefore, while this trial may seem like just an adventure to those following on social media, experts in the automotive industry are carefully watching this journey to see how electric vehicles can complicate people’s lives.
