Nintendo has ended repair support for the New Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo has shared details regarding its decision to end repair support for the New Nintendo 3DS, a move that affects its users. How might the inability to officially repair your devices impact your future gaming experiences?
Nintendo Officially Ends Repair Support for New Nintendo 3DS
In a post on the Japanese Nintendo account, the company announced that repair services for the New Nintendo 3DS have officially ended. This decision was made due to the lack of necessary spare parts for the handheld console. The gaming giant Nintendo had stated earlier this year that repair services would cease when spare parts for the Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo 2DS XL, and New Nintendo 3DS ran out. Previously, support for the Nintendo 3DS XL and standard Nintendo 3DS had already ended, and now it seems that the repair support for the New Nintendo 3DS is also disappearing.
Currently, the only consoles within the DS family that still have ongoing repair support are the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 2DS XL. However, in light of Nintendo’s announcement, a similar situation will occur when spare parts for these consoles are exhausted, and repair services will be halted.
Consoles with Exhausted Spare Parts Fade into the Dusty Pages of History
In July, Nintendo also announced the end of repair support for the Wii U, stating that “the necessary parts for repairs have run out” and that it “will no longer accept repairs for Wii U consoles and peripherals.” These developments indicate that the maintenance and repair processes for older gaming consoles are becoming increasingly difficult.
In the future, the only repair option available for these consoles will be to try to fix them with “second-hand” or market-available “knock-off” spare parts from unauthorized repair shops. Gamers will attempt to keep their old consoles alive through such alternative routes, but they will need to be cautious in this process.
