Restructuring at Matter Labs: Layoffs Affect 16% of Workforce

Matter Labs, the primary developer behind the innovative Ethereum layer-2 protocol ZKsync, has recently announced a significant restructuring that has resulted in the layoff of 16% of its workforce. This decision was made as part of a strategic effort to align the company’s resources with the evolving needs of developers who are building on the ZKsync platform.

In a post shared on X, CEO Alex Gluchowski elaborated on the reasoning behind this difficult choice. He mentioned that the company underwent an extensive organizational planning process, which highlighted a mismatch between the current talent and roles within the company and the specific requirements of the technology and support that developers now seek.

According to the company’s LinkedIn profile, Matter Labs employs around 200 individuals. Therefore, these layoffs could potentially affect more than 30 employees, marking a significant shift in the company’s operational strategy as it seeks to better position itself for the future.
