In a harrowing escalation of conflict, Russia launched a series of bombardments across Ukraine early Wednesday, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least three individuals in Lviv, a city situated near Ukraine’s western border with Poland, as reported by local authorities. This onslaught follows a devastating ballistic missile attack in the eastern city of Poltava the previous day, where more than 50 lives were lost and numerous others sustained injuries.

The missile strikes in Poltava specifically targeted a military academy, striking just moments after air-raid alarms had sounded, leaving residents with little time to seek shelter and safety. On Wednesday morning, as the threat of further attacks loomed, Ukrainian officials urged citizens in various regions to take cover as drones and cruise missiles approached several urban centers, with some projectiles reportedly altering their trajectories mid-flight.

In Lviv, the regional military administrator, Maksym Kozytskyi, confirmed that both drones and cruise missiles were en route to the city. He later described the situation as “very loud” upon impact, advising residents to remain in their shelters. In addition to the fatalities, 22 individuals were reported injured during the assault, including a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old, as detailed by Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, via the messaging platform Telegram.

Meanwhile, in Poltava, rescue operations continued in the aftermath of Tuesday’s catastrophic attack, which left at least 271 people injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine addressed the nation in his nightly speech, reiterating his urgent appeal to international allies for enhanced air defense systems, additional weaponry, and authorization to conduct strikes into Russian territory.
