🇺🇸 U.S. ELECTION 2024

The presidential election is rapidly approaching, with less than 70 days remaining. Here’s what we’re closely monitoring.

New Indictment Filed Against Donald Trump

Federal prosecutors have introduced a revised indictment against Donald Trump, presenting a streamlined version of the previous charges that accused him of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results. This new indictment has been adjusted to align with the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which granted former presidents extensive immunity. You can read the full text of the revised indictment.

This updated indictment retains the fundamental framework of the initial charges filed almost 13 months ago, which detailed Trump’s involvement in various schemes aimed at invalidating the outcome of the 2020 election. However, it omits any references that could be interpreted as related to Trump’s official actions as president. Instead, it asserts that certain actions should be viewed in the context of a private candidate’s conduct.

In response to the indictment, Trump took to social media to criticize both Jack Smith, the special counsel overseeing the case, and the allegations presented against him.

Sept. 10 Debate: Trump indicated his willingness to participate in a presidential debate alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, which will be hosted by ABC News. He also mentioned that the issue regarding whether microphones would be muted during the debate when a candidate is not speaking has been resolved. A representative from ABC declined to comment on this matter. Meanwhile, Harris is scheduled to conduct her first major interview with CNN tomorrow. Here’s what else is notable:

  • The first individual to breach the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, received a prison sentence of over four years yesterday.
  • Trump is reportedly planning to appoint Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard as honorary co-chairs of his transition team, according to an adviser.
  • Our colleagues at The Morning newsletter have compiled a list of 21 pressing questions that Harris has yet to address. Be sure to check it out.
  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom has a background as a prosecutor, similar to Harris. They share several other common traits as well.
