TON Blockchain Faces Consecutive Outages Due to Increased Load

The TON blockchain, developed by Telegram, the popular messaging app provider, is experiencing its second outage within just two days. The development team announced that “block production issues began at 19:19 UTC,” as they communicated with users through messages posted on both Telegram and X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday afternoon in the U.S.

The disruptions are reportedly linked to a high volume of activity associated with the minting of the DOGS token. In response to the situation, the TON Core team is actively working on a solution to restore normal operations. They reassured users that their assets remain secure despite the ongoing issues.

In an urgent appeal on X, the team urged mainnet validators to promptly update their nodes and initiate a restart. According to data from the Tonscan block explorer, the last blocks recorded on the blockchain occurred at 12:23 PM Eastern Time, which is equivalent to 16:23 UTC.

Despite the outage, the price of the TON token remained relatively stable, experiencing a minor decline of 0.99% over a four-hour period and a drop of 4% in the last 24 hours, as reported by CoinDesk. One user humorously commented in response to the team’s Telegram update, saying, “As long as I can finally withdraw my dogs 😅😅 – I can wait.”

The prior outage took place during Asian trading hours on Wednesday and lasted for approximately six hours. Similar to the current situation, this earlier disruption had a negligible impact on the TON price, which had already been affected several days earlier following the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, in France.

This earlier downtime was also partly attributed to the overwhelming popularity of the DOGS airdrop. This initiative is part of the Ton Foundation’s campaign to raise awareness regarding what they believe is the unjust arrest of Durov.
