Microsoft announced that the Control Panel, one of the iconic features of Windows 11 and Windows 10, is not on the verge of disappearing, and that the news regarding this matter has been exaggerated. This statement came after various news reports that emerged last week concerning the Control Panel.

The Control Panel has a history of nearly 40 years and hosts many settings and options that are not available in the Settings app of Windows 11. This application, described as “old school“, allows users to easily access system settings. However, some reports claimed that Microsoft was insistent on removing the Control Panel. These rumors were based on a statement in a support article related to system tools in Windows: “The Control Panel is in the process of being retired in favor of the Settings app, which offers a more modern and fluid experience.” This situation seemed like a confession indicating that Microsoft was considering removing the Control Panel.

No Need to Panic: The Control Panel is Not Going Away! However, following these news reports, Microsoft revised the statement in the document. The Control Panel section now includes the following clarification: “Most of the settings in the Control Panel are in the process of being migrated to the Settings app, which offers a more modern and fluid experience.” This update confirms, as we emphasized in our initial report on the subject, that the Control Panel will not be abruptly removed, and that both applications will coexist in Windows until users are accustomed to the new one.
