Apple’s Foldable Device Delayed to 2027
Apple’s eagerly anticipated foldable device has been postponed to 2027. This development, which has created great excitement in the tech world, means significant changes for users and investors.
Has Apple’s Foldable Device Been Delayed?
In the past few months, various rumors have emerged regarding Apple’s development of a foldable iPad or a MacBook with an expanding screen. However, the release date for this mysterious device remains uncertain. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared information confirming these delay rumors.
Kuo stated in a post on the X platform, “Due to technical challenges related to the screen and mechanical components, the assembly mass production schedule has been postponed from 1Y26 [the first half of 2026] to the end of 2027 or 2028.” This situation could significantly impact Apple’s product lineup.
The company has preferred to wait for the technology to mature, especially as competitors like Samsung, Microsoft, and OnePlus have released foldable screen products. As seen in past product launches, Apple has favored entering the race with a more robust and problem-free device rather than rushing a flawed product to market. Especially the first generations of foldable devices have encountered many issues.
Looking at recent developments, Apple still does not seem completely satisfied with the product it is preparing. So far, rumors have suggested that Apple’s foldable device could come in two main forms; these include a foldable iPad or a MacBook with a large touchscreen on the upper and lower halves. However, uncertainties remain about which features will be decisive between these two devices and Apple’s promotional strategy.
As Kuo noted in his X post, the screen size of the device has been “confirmed to be 18.8 inches” and that “Apple has canceled the 20.25-inch design.” Previously, many sources, including Kuo and experts in the display industry like Ross Young, had discussed the possibility of Apple launching a 20-inch device; however, it seems this decision has been abandoned.
Additionally, at the beginning of August, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicated that Apple is “working on a giant, foldable iPad,” but that this is “something that won’t come until at least 2027 or 2028.” Of course, until an official statement is made by Apple, all of this remains mere speculation. Therefore, it is important to remember that no matter how reliable the sources may be, a cautious approach should always be taken towards leaks and claims.
