Big Changes in the Apple App Store

Apple is preparing for a major overhaul of the App Store platform that users have become accustomed to for a long time. In line with these changes, the roles of app managers will change, and the service will be divided into two separate units. One group of employees will be responsible for the management of the App Store, while another group will manage strategies for approaching alternative markets in the European Union.

As a significant part of this change, the App Store’s vice president Matt Fischer will step down from his position after more than ten years. In a memo within the company, Fischer stated, “I have had this idea in my mind for a long time; and since we are restructuring the team to better manage new challenges and opportunities, I believe it is time to pass the baton to two outstanding leaders on my team.

Apple’s senior executive Carson Oliver will oversee the App Store division, while Ann Thai, who serves as the product director at the company, will lead the group that deals with alternative distribution methods. The head of the App Store, Phil Schiller, will oversee both divisions.

Epic Games makes a new move against Apple…

Following the European Union’s request to allow third-party payment methods and alternative app stores, Apple decided to separate this division. Epic Games, which has been protesting Apple’s monopolistic practices for years, made an attempt to reopen the Epic Games Store on the iOS platform for its popular Fortnite game. With this development, we have started to see alternative app and game stores within Apple devices, especially in European Union countries.

In the past, Apple demanded a 30% commission on every product sold in these alternative applications. It strictly enforced oversight by removing applications that did not pay the commission from the App Store.
