Exciting Innovations from Capcom: Monster Hunter Wilds™
At the 2024 Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Capcom introduced their new game Monster Hunter Wilds™, inviting players to unknown lands. This introduction shared the latest visuals of the highly anticipated action RPG along with details about the Scarlet Forest and a spider-like monster called Lala Barina that patrols this lush area. Additionally, Capcom showcased an apex monster from one of the game’s regions in an extended format for the first time. These new gameplay details include exciting elements such as encounters with large-scale enemies, group hunting even in single-player mode, and unprecedented freedom in the seamless world of the Forbidden Lands.
This game, the next evolution of the award-winning Monster Hunter series, is set to launch globally in 2025 on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam platforms with Cross-Gen support.
New Hunting Ground: Scarlet Forest
The new area introduced in the Forbidden Lands, Scarlet Forest, offers an impressive environment where vast greenery is painted with shades of red and contrasts with water. Like other ecosystems in Monster Hunter Wilds, the Scarlet Forest features a dynamic environment that changes with periods of Abundance, Corruption, and Depletion. This transformation plays a significant role in altering the landscape and the wildlife living within it.
New Monster: Lala Barina
One of the nesting creatures in the Scarlet Forest, Lala Barina, is a monster belonging to the Temnoceran class, which is rarely seen in the series. This creature, equipped with sharp and slender limbs, can transform its body into a massive, rose-like shape. This form presents both a dangerous and highly aesthetic appearance.
Apex Highlight
Each region in Monster Hunter Wilds is governed by an apex monster. Under the Scarlet Forest, in the previously introduced Windward Plains, a monster named Rey Dau reigns supreme. This Flying Wyvern, first seen at the Summer Game Fest, was showcased today in all its glory. The apex predator of the Windward Plains has adapted to the challenging conditions known as Sandtides, which transform its dusty meadows, and it can unleash devastating electrical attacks that threaten even the most experienced hunters.
Support Hunters
Whether playing solo or online, Support Hunters can fill gaps in players’ hunting teams. Among these helpful NPCs is Olivia, a hammer-wielding member of the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, alongside her elite Palico Athos. Both will play significant roles in the story and provide support to players.
More Movement
In addition to new allies, hunters can encounter opponents in new and fresh ways. This includes mechanics like Power Clashes, where certain attacks can lead hunters into physical confrontations, and Offset Attacks, where a well-timed hit can stop a monster. Achieving success with these new abilities can knock monsters off balance and create critical openings or trigger powerful special attacks.
Windsong Village
In the latest trailer, a settlement called Kunafa was introduced, which hunters will visit in the Windward Plains. This village, one of multiple communities in the Forbidden Lands, has existed here for generations and has its unique culture. Shaped by its surroundings and local wildlife, Kunafa raises animals for cheese production and is home to Seikrets, which hunters will find to be invaluable companions while exploring the Wilds.
Seamless Exploration
When away from the hunting camp, hunters can embark on exploration trips with a series of targets. Quests can start by targeting a monster in the area using the map or simply attacking one while wandering around. Additionally, players can use portable grill equipment to boost their stats or rest at the Pop-up Camp to prepare for their next hunt. These advanced operational bases serve as convenient points for items and equipment, act as return points after fainting, and can be utilized as fast travel points.
