A Celestial Spectacle: The Super Blue Moon

It was a night to remember for stargazers and photographers alike, as a breathtaking supermoon illuminated the night sky across the globe. A supermoon, while more a colloquial term than a scientific one, refers to the phenomenon when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth during a full moon. This spectacular event typically occurs only three to four times a year. Because the moon is slightly closer than usual, it appears significantly larger and brighter than on a typical night.

This particular supermoon was exceptionally rare, as it also coincided with a Blue Moon. A Blue Moon occurs when there are two full moons within a single calendar month or four full moons in a single season. In this case, we experienced the latter scenario, making it a truly unique sight.

If you feared you missed this celestial event, there’s good news! According to NASA, the Super Blue Moon can still be viewed in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Mark your calendars: the next supermoon will be accompanied by a partial lunar eclipse on the night of September 18, followed by another on October 17, which will showcase the moon’s closest approach for the year. The final supermoon of the year is set to grace the sky on November 15.
