HDR Content Management in Windows 11
Connecting an HDR-compatible monitor or television to your computer requires you to toggle a switch in the display settings to enable HDR in Windows 11. However, while HDR content provides a truly impressive visual experience, other parts of the operating system may sometimes appear a bit dull. Fortunately, Microsoft is continuing to work on addressing this issue.
Recently, a new option related to HDR was discovered in the Settings app in build 27686, released on the Canary Channel. This innovation allows HDR content to be played back even when HDR is turned off. Thus, you can avoid the hassle of manually enabling HDR when you want to watch a video or play a game.
Although Microsoft has not yet mentioned this significant change in the official release notes for build 27686, if you have the latest Canary release and your computer supports HDR, you can follow the steps below to try out this new option:
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Click on the System tab.
- Access the Display settings.
- Navigate to the HDR section.
- Enable the “Allow HDR video streaming even when HDR is off” option.
This new feature will significantly enhance the user experience and provide a richer visual experience with HDR content.
