Apple and Google: Search Engine Competition

Apple has sent a clear message that, despite all of Microsoft’s efforts with Bing, it will remain the default search engine on devices. Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, Eddy Cue, recently emphasized that no amount of money could convince Apple to switch to Bing. Cue pointed out that even if Microsoft offers Bing for free, Google still stands out as the superior option.

Google’s dominance in the search engine market is well known by many. This situation is supported by the fact that many devices, from Android phones to iPhones, use Google as the default search engine. This strong position even led a U.S. federal judge to label Google as a “monopoly” recently. Although Apple users have the option to change the default search engine in the Safari browser, Cue’s statements from 2023 still hold true; there is no valid alternative that matches the capabilities provided by Google.

  • Bing
  • DuckDuckGo
  • Ecosia

While these alternatives exist, most users still prefer to continue using Google. As a result, it seems unlikely that Bing will replace Google on Apple devices anytime soon. However, it’s worth noting that we are in a market dynamic where everything can change at any moment.
