Microsoft’s 3D Dream: The End of Paint 3D

Recently, have you seen someone on a bus lost in virtual worlds with a VR headset on? Or have you encountered a student who, when asked by their teacher to draw a picture in elementary school, opened Windows and drew their mother, father, siblings, and green forests in 3D? Perhaps these scenes were examples of living in Microsoft’s dream world. The company even went so far as to add a 3D drawing tool to Windows to make these dreams a reality. For those who found Blender too complex, this tool offered by Windows would open the doors to creating amazing drawings with 3D cubes, spheres, and prisms.

However, after 8 years, we are still left in the astonishment we felt when we first heard about it. According to Microsoft’s vision, in the future where everyone would live with VR/AR glasses, people would no longer be satisfied with 2D drawings. Therefore, the company planned to remove even the classic Paint software from Windows and offer Paint 3D as the standard.

But the world Microsoft envisioned never materialized. Nowadays, no one is living with hologram VR glasses on their heads, and children are not drawing 3D rainbow pictures at school. Consequently, people showed no interest in Paint 3D, and Microsoft’s plans were shelved. In 2021, with the release of Windows 10 build 21332, Paint 3D was removed from clean installations of the operating system. This means that unless you specifically chose it, this application would no longer be installed on your computer.

We have reached the end of this fantasy. After 8 years, Microsoft has finally acknowledged the absurdity of this fantasy and has decided to completely remove Paint 3D. Microsoft will also remove Paint 3D from the app store on November 4th. Users who open the app have already started to learn about this situation through a notification at the top of the screen. If there are any among us who are saddened by this, we share your sorrow; but we invite you to use Blender…
