New residential constructions are mandated to include reinforced rooms designed to withstand missile strikes. One Tel Aviv resident shared, “I have a shelter next to the house. If the alarm goes off, the council will open the shelter. Then we go in and hope that it stops the bombs.”

The recent elimination of two prominent militant leaders in Beirut and Tehran—widely attributed to Israeli operations—has sparked fierce vows of retaliation from Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Amidst the turmoil, some residents are contemplating relocation, while others stand their ground. “I will not leave Dahiyeh, no matter what happens,” declared Khalil Nassar, a 75-year-old local, as he proudly carried Lebanese, Palestinian, and Hezbollah flags in a show of defiance. “They are trying to intimidate us.”

In Israel, preparations for potential escalations are underway. Medical staff at Rambam Hospital are busy setting up beds in an underground parking garage, anticipating an uptick in hostilities in Haifa. The situation escalated dramatically after an apparent Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building in Syria in April, which resulted in the deaths of two Iranian generals. In retaliation, Iran launched an unprecedented direct assault on Israel, deploying approximately 300 ballistic missiles and drones.
