Ukrainians Prepare for War: A Community Response to Conflict

In the face of the ongoing war with Russia, Ukrainian citizens are actively preparing themselves for the challenges ahead. Over 250 civilians have successfully completed a foundational military training program at the Kharkiv Regional Institution of National Resistance. Currently, around 400 individuals are undergoing this essential training.

Nadiia Mokliak, a dedicated school teacher, shared her motivations for participating in the program: “I need to complete this training not only as an educator of the ‘Defence of Ukraine’ subject but also as a classroom teacher living in such perilous times.” She added, “If I were to write an essay titled ‘How did you spend your summer?’, it would certainly be a compelling narrative.”

The head of the institution, Oleksandr Zalivan, emphasized the significance of these training sessions, stating, “In just four months, more than 250 civilians have undergone training at our facility. These preparations are vital, as unexpected explosions can occur in our infrastructure and populated areas. At any moment, anyone might find themselves in a situation where they need to provide assistance to themselves or someone nearby.”

The course is designed to be inclusive, available to all adult men and women under the age of 60, regardless of their professional background. This initiative reflects the resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people to face adversity head-on and to ensure their safety and the safety of their communities.
