The iPhone 17 is expected to offer its users higher resolution selfies with a 24 MP front camera upgrade. Discover all the details about the new features and advanced camera technology.
Expected Front Camera Upgrade with iPhone 17
Apple is preparing to make a significant leap in front camera technology for its iPhone series. The front camera, updated long ago with a 12 MP sensor, has only seen software-based improvements (such as Photonic Engine and Smart HDR) since then. Users will finally see the anticipated updates for a better selfie experience with the iPhone 17 models.
Haitong Securities analyst Jeff Pu stated that the iPhone 17 models, which will be released in 2025, will be equipped with 24 MP sensors featuring six plastic lens elements. The current iPhone 15 series has 12 MP front cameras with five plastic lens elements. However, the iPhone 16 is expected to use six plastic lens elements. This means it will have been five years since Apple upgraded the 12 MP sensor, first introduced with the iPhone 11, to a 24 MP sensor with the iPhone 17.
While the Cupertino-based tech giant has frequently emphasized that the most important feature of cameras is not the number of megapixels, this significant increase in megapixels will notably enhance selfie quality. Alongside Jeff Pu’s statements, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had also previously predicted that at least one iPhone 17 model would come with a 24 MP selfie camera featuring a six-element lens.
As a result, a significant improvement in selfie capture is expected with the iPhone 17. Users will be able to take clearer, more vibrant, and detailed photos thanks to this new sensor. This once again showcases Apple’s passion for photography.
