Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi are joining forces to further accelerate the development processes of electric vehicles (EVs). The three Japanese car manufacturers have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of advanced electric vehicles and related technologies. This strategic partnership aims to gain a competitive advantage in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.

The companies hope to reduce costs by pooling their resources and finding ways to bring new electric vehicles to market more effectively. In their statements, Nissan and Honda noted that Mitsubishi’s participation would provide significant expertise and that the collaboration of these three firms would create new synergies. Honda had previously established a partnership with General Motors for electric vehicle development; however, this collaboration ended with the upcoming launch of the Honda Prologue, which is built on GM’s Ultium platform.

With this partnership, Honda is starting to collaborate with Nissan while also maintaining Nissan’s ongoing global alliance with Mitsubishi and Renault. It appears that Honda is in search of new business partners following the termination of its agreement with General Motors. On the other hand, Nissan and Mitsubishi are facing various challenges in the U.S. market; Nissan’s operating profits fell by approximately 99% in the last quarter.

Nissan had committed to electrifying a significant portion of its product range by 2026 and sees this partnership as a critical step in achieving its goals and managing costs. The automakers aim to overcome existing barriers and promote innovation in the electric vehicle sector with the participation of Honda and Mitsubishi.
