The Thrill of Street Skateboarding at Place de la Concorde
On a scorching Sunday morning, the women’s street skateboarding venue at the iconic Place de la Concorde buzzed with excitement and energy, as a crowd of teens gathered, ready to showcase their skills. Among them was a girl with a striking long black ponytail, the ends beautifully dip-dyed in a vibrant blond. Her black sneakers featured white stripes on the left foot, orange stripes on the right, and eye-catching bright yellow rubber soles that contrasted with her outfit.
Another competitor stood out in a stylish green polo shirt paired with funky green camo pants. Her long braids flowed behind her like colorful streamers, adding to her dynamic presence. And then there was the smaller girl, clad in an oversized T-shirt and baggy cargo pants, who completed her look with a vivid purple helmet that popped against the backdrop of the competition.
These young athletes were not simply fans of the sport; they were fierce competitors, each with a unique style and flair. Among them were:
- Liz Akama, 15 years old from Japan
- Boipelo Awuah, 18 years old from South Africa
- Cui Chenxi, 14 years old from China
In total, there were 22 talented skaters participating in the event, with more than half of them being teenagers. The lineup included:
- Two 15-year-olds from Spain
- 14-year-olds representing Australia, Japan, and France
- A 16-year-old from the United States
- A remarkable Thai skater, Vareeraya Sukasem, who was just 12 years old
This diverse gathering of young women not only highlighted the global reach of skateboarding but also the rising talent within the sport, setting the stage for an exhilarating competition that promised to captivate all who attended.
