The Layoff Process at Bungie Has Begun
Bungie, which holds an important place in the gaming world and is known for both the Destiny and Halo series, is currently going through a challenging period. The company has made the decision to reduce its workforce and has had to lay off 220 employees. This situation affects approximately 17% of Bungie’s total workforce.
The Downsizing Process at Bungie
The layoffs in question create an impact that encompasses “every level” of Bungie, including managerial and senior leadership positions. It has been stated that laid-off employees will be provided with various benefits such as severance pay, bonuses, and health insurance.
At the same time, Bungie plans to integrate 155 employees, which is about 12% of the total workforce, into Sony Interactive Entertainment to strengthen its collaboration with the company. Pete Parsons, the Chairman and CEO of Bungie, explained the reasons behind the layoffs as increasing development costs and deteriorating economic conditions along with changes in the industry.
On the other hand, an action game set in a sci-fi fantasy universe developed by Bungie will continue to be developed under PlayStation Studios, having separated from the company. This situation signifies an important change for both Bungie and the gaming world.
