In a shocking turn of events, two children have lost their lives, and another eleven individuals have sustained injuries following a brutal stabbing attack in Southport, a charming seaside town located near Liverpool, England. The Merseyside Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old male has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with this heinous act. Although the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, authorities have stated that they are not treating it as a terror-related incident.
Among the wounded, nine children were injured during the attack, with six reported to be in critical condition. Additionally, two adults who attempted to protect the young victims are also in critical condition, according to police reports.
The incident occurred during a Taylor Swift-themed workshop designed for children aged approximately 6 to 11, held in the first week of the school holidays. The two-hour session was led by a yoga instructor and a dance instructor, as advertised in an online listing.
At the crime scene in Southport, police have been actively investigating, with a knife recovered as evidence. Eyewitnesses have recounted chilling details, describing the harrowing sounds of blood-curdling screams and the sight of children emerging from the event, visibly shaken and covered in blood.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer labeled the attack as “horrendous and deeply shocking,” while King Charles extended his “condolences, prayers, and deepest sympathies” to the victims and their families affected by this “utterly horrific incident.”
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly resided in a village approximately 8 kilometers from the site of the attack and is originally from Cardiff, Wales. Ryan Carney, a local resident, shared that his mother witnessed emergency responders carrying children “covered in red, covered in blood,” and noted that she could see stab wounds on the young victims.
“All this stuff never really happens around here,” Carney remarked. “You hear of it, stabbings and stuff like that in major cities, your Manchesters, your Londons. This is sunny Southport. That’s what people call it. The sun’s out. It’s a lovely place to be.”
