Apple’s Transition to iPhone Pro Production in India
Apple aims to support the local economy and increase production capacity by transitioning to iPhone Pro production in India. This strategy stands out as a significant step alongside changes in the global supply chain.
Apple’s Production Strategy: Shift Towards India
It has been reported that Apple plans to produce iPhone Pro phones in a different country for the first time in order to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on China. According to a report published by MoneyControl, the Cupertino giant will start producing the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in India immediately after their launch.
In recent years, Apple has significantly increased its production capacity in India. The company has a highly ambitious plan aiming for one in four iPhones produced to be made in India by 2026. Allegedly, Apple will further enhance its production capabilities for the launch of the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models right after this year’s launch.
The low incidence of issues with the iPhone 15 models produced in India may have positively contributed to Apple’s decision. Foxconn‘s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is set to begin the New Product Introduction (NPI) process for the Pro models soon and will transition to mass production with the launch of the iPhone 16 models.
No significant changes are expected in Apple’s relationship with China. The company is likely to continue its operations in China over the coming years. However, the risks associated with relying solely on one region and the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and China are influencing Apple’s decision to diversify its manufacturing centers.
Apple is Learning from the iPhone 14 Pro
For example, during the sales of the iPhone 14 Pro, the largest iPhone factory in China had to shut down due to issues caused by COVID-19. The riots that occurred after the end of the pandemic also led to the facility’s closure again. This situation caused Apple to be unable to deliver its newest iPhones to customers, resulting in many users receiving their phones only after the holiday season.
All these issues explain why Apple is determined to prevent a similar situation from happening again. The company aims to make its production processes more sustainable and reliable, preparing for potential disruptions in the future.
