Severe Wildfires Devastate Northern California and Beyond

This week, wildfires have raged across Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and western Canada, leading to urgent evacuation orders and the mobilization of tens of thousands of firefighters. The flames have engulfed numerous buildings, blanketed cities in thick smoke, and scorched hundreds of thousands of acres of land.

In Calgary, Alberta’s largest city, officials issued a health advisory warning residents about the deteriorating air quality due to the smoke from the wildfires. By Thursday, this smoke had even reached as far as New England. In Oregon and Washington, over 40 fires were actively burning, with the most significant being the Durkee fire near the Idaho border, which had consumed more than 268,000 acres as of Thursday afternoon.

In Northern California, the Park fire has burned more than 71,400 acres and resulted in the arrest of an individual believed to be responsible for igniting the blaze.
