Samsung’s New Patents: The Future of Foldable Phones

Recently, Samsung introduced its next-generation Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 foldable phones. However, newly discovered patents suggest that the company may be working on a different phone design.

A new patent identified in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) data by MySmartPrice reveals an interesting design for a Samsung device. The phone in this patent features a structure similar to the now-discontinued LG Wing, yet it also includes a hinge mechanism.

On the back of this new Samsung device seen in the patent, there’s a camera arrangement located in the top right corner. The bottom of the device draws attention with its charging port, microphone, and speaker grilles. Initially appearing like a standard phone, this device possesses a rotatable screen structure similar to that of the LG Wing. When the screen is rotated, a second screen is revealed at the bottom.

Thanks to the added hinge mechanism, it becomes possible for the rotating screen to bend and lock in place, similar to the secondary screens in the Galaxy Z Flip6 or other similar series. This rotatable screen and hinge system provides users with a large display for work while offering a smaller secondary screen underneath. The secondary screen, located beneath the main screen, allows users to access certain controls and monitor what’s running.

However, it is important to remember that obtaining a patent does not necessarily mean that a phone similar to the one shown in the patent will be launched. Device manufacturers submit thousands of patent applications each year; however, only a few of these applications eventually reach consumers.
