New Quality Standards in Google Play Store

As of August 31, 2024, the Google Play Store will make it more difficult for low-quality applications to be accessible to Android users. With new regulations, Google wants an application to meet higher quality standards to be featured in its store. The company expresses this situation as “Applications must provide a stable, responsive, and engaging user experience“. In other words, applications that frequently experience crashing issues, do not provide basic utility as a mobile application, lack engaging content, or do not offer a functional and user-friendly experience will no longer be available on Google Play.

Google cites some common issues related to applications, such as:

• Static applications that lack application-specific functions, for example, applications that only display text or PDF files,
• Applications with very little content that do not provide an engaging user experience, for example, applications that offer only a single wallpaper,
• Applications that have no functionality or only serve a specific purpose,
• Applications that do not load,
• Applications that load but do not function properly.

Changes Brought by the New Rules

Although Google already allows Android users to download applications from third-party stores, most people prefer the built-in solution, which will also provide a safer environment for billions of Android users. In 2023, Google took a similar step and removed 2.28 million applications from the store for violating policies and rejected approximately 200,000 application submissions for the same reason. In short, the process of publishing applications on Google Play is becoming more rigorous and careful.
