Netflix, the streaming service, continues to surprise market experts by gaining more subscribers than expected. The company announced that its subscriber count increased by 8.05 million during the second quarter of 2024 while revealing its financial results for that period. This figure led to a result significantly above the forecasts of financial analysts and surpassed the 5.89 million new subscribers gained in the second quarter of 2023.
Currently, Netflix has reached a total of 277.65 million subscribers worldwide. The company stated that it does not plan to share new subscriber numbers when the fiscal year 2025 results are announced but indicated that these figures would be disclosed as critical thresholds are reached. Additionally, the streaming service noted that the number of ad-supported subscribers increased by 34 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period last year.
The company’s total revenues rose from 8.187 billion dollars reported in the same period of the previous year to 9.559 billion dollars in this quarter. Net income also showed significant growth, increasing from 1.488 billion dollars to 2.147 billion dollars.
Furthermore, during this financial announcement, Netflix confirmed that it is testing a new homepage design for TV applications announced earlier in June. The company stated that this new interface makes “title information, including summaries, genres, and ratings, more visible, and that title previews are larger and more dynamic.” This facilitates a more engaging browsing experience for users with more immersive trailers and larger box visuals.
Finally, Netflix addressed its developments in the mobile gaming space, announcing that it will now release a new game every month. Many of these games are designed based on Netflix’s popular content such as Too Hot to Handle, Emily in Paris, and Selling Sunset.
