This month, a left-wing coalition achieved a surprising victory in France’s parliamentary elections, defying expectations of a far-right triumph. The streets were alive with celebration as supporters expressed their joy—some weeping with relief, others dancing with exhilaration. “The left has awakened,” declared one enthusiastic supporter. “We’ve demonstrated that a different path is possible.”

However, less than two weeks later, the momentum of that victory seemed to wane. Almost immediately after their win, the coalition parties began to clash over internal disagreements. The situation intensified when, on Thursday, their candidate was defeated in the crucial election for the presidency of the National Assembly—a position that holds significant weight in a politically fragmented landscape where no single party commands a majority.
