Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, emphasized the necessity for global business to operate on a “level playing field” during the G7 trade ministers meeting in Italy. Held in the Calabrian port of Villa San Giovanni, the meeting aims to address tensions and frictions that threaten global trade and sustainable growth.
Tajani highlighted the importance of establishing fair competition for businesses worldwide. He stated, “We need to ensure a level playing field and shared rules to enable our businesses to compete on equal terms in all markets.” Additionally, he stressed the significance of sustainability in trade, particularly in combating climate change for balanced and sustainable growth.
The discussions at the meeting will also focus on addressing concerns raised during the G7 summit in Puglia. Leaders at the summit expressed worries about China’s industrial targeting and non-market policies leading to global spillovers, market distortions, and overcapacity in various sectors.
