French Soldiers Prepare to Ensure Security at Paris Olympics

French soldiers have arrived in Paris to take on a unique mission of providing security for the upcoming Olympic Games. Among them are experienced individuals who have recently completed missions in Mali or Afghanistan, bringing a diverse set of skills to their new task.

One of the reservists, Ankhena from the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment, expressed confidence in their abilities, stating, “Our mission will be to secure the Olympic and Paralympic sites. It’s a mission we are well-prepared for, thanks to our training and experience as both reservists and soldiers.”

The military has established a state-of-the-art camp, dedicated to the memory of the late French Olympian Corporal Alain Mimoun, to serve as the operational base for the soldiers. This camp, strategically located for easy access across Paris, has the capacity to accommodate 4,500 personnel.

The living quarters at the camp are designed for comfort and efficiency, with soldiers housed in chalets on stilts, each dormitory accommodating fifteen individuals. The camp is equipped with essential facilities including an infirmary, sanitary amenities, and a refectory, all of which were constructed in an impressive 65-day timeframe.

Colonel Michel Bergier, the manager of Camp Corporal Alain Mimoun, commended the swift completion of the camp, stating, “After more than 40 years in the army, this is the first time I’ve seen this kind of achievement. Since World War II, it’s the biggest camp ever built in Paris.”

The soldiers are gearing up for their crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the Olympic Games, set to commence next Friday.
