Six individuals were discovered deceased on Tuesday at a Grand Hyatt hotel in downtown Bangkok. According to police officials, the victims appeared to have been poisoned.

Among the deceased were two American citizens of Vietnamese descent and four Vietnamese nationals, as confirmed by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. Police Maj. Gen. Theeradej Thumsuthee, who leads the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s investigation, revealed that three men and three women were among the deceased.

“From the preliminary examination of the scene, it was assumed that they had been poisoned,” stated General Theeradej. He also mentioned that evidence pointed towards all six individuals having consumed coffee or tea. A preliminary autopsy did not reveal any signs of physical harm.

A tour guide is currently undergoing questioning in connection with the incident.

Police Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, informed the press that no signs of a struggle were present. The six bodies were discovered in the same suite, with all individuals scheduled to check out on the day of the incident, their belongings already packed.

Noteworthy is the fact that Bangkok rarely experiences mass violence. However, the city faced a tragic shooting incident last October when a 14-year-old gunman opened fire in a luxury shopping mall, resulting in the death of three individuals.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, located in the bustling heart of Bangkok, is positioned opposite the Erawan Shrine, the site of a devastating bombing in 2015 that claimed the lives of 20 people.
