Extreme Weather Conditions in Eastern Europe

Once again, Romania is grappling with scorching temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, causing distress among the population. The emergency services are actively treating individuals affected by the heat, while safety measures are being enforced, such as pulling over freight trucks and reducing train speeds to prevent accidents.

The relentless heatwave is also straining Romania’s energy infrastructure, unable to meet the soaring demand for electricity. Consequently, power blackouts have become more frequent, adding to the challenges faced by the country.

Challenges in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the hot weather is subjecting residents to sweltering conditions. Despite medical advice recommending staying indoors during extreme heat, this may not be a viable option in Ukraine due to the country’s compromised power grid, a result of Russian attacks. Air conditioning usage is restricted, further exacerbating the discomfort caused by the high temperatures.

Wildfires in North Macedonia

In North Macedonia, efforts are underway to extinguish wildfires raging on Serta mountain in the Negotino region. Helicopters and firefighting aircraft have been deployed to combat the fires, with the Crisis Management Centre reporting multiple active wildfires across the country at one point.
