US President Joe Biden stated that he currently sees “no good reason” to engage in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while emphasizing that he is in direct communication with China’s President Xi Jinping. Biden expressed his concerns about Putin’s stance, noting that he is not inclined to change his behavior.
Regarding Russia’s recent military actions, Biden mentioned that the outcomes have not been as successful as claimed by Putin. He also issued a warning to China, indicating that any collaboration with North Korea to support Russia could lead to economic repercussions.
Biden’s Stance on Foreign Policy and Domestic Issues
During a press conference following the NATO Summit in Washington, President Biden vigorously defended his foreign and domestic policies. He dismissed questions about his ability to serve another term, emphasizing his commitment to fulfill his responsibilities rather than focus on his legacy.
Despite some concerns about his performance, Biden affirmed his candidacy for the upcoming elections, highlighting the support he has received from European allies. He stressed his determination to continue in the race, underscoring his belief that he is the most qualified candidate.
Ukraine Compact and NATO Support
President Biden unveiled a new initiative, the Ukraine Compact, aimed at solidifying NATO countries’ support for Ukraine. This compact is designed to pave the way for Ukraine’s potential NATO membership by assisting in necessary reforms and enhancing defense capabilities.
The European Commission endorsed the compact’s three-point strategy to bolster Ukraine’s defense, deter aggression, and ensure territorial integrity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts and support received from the United States and other partners.
During the summit, a brief mix-up occurred when Biden mistakenly referred to Zelenskyy as ‘President Putin,’ which he promptly corrected amidst the room’s surprise. French President Emmanuel Macron defended Biden, citing occasional slips in speeches and calling for understanding between leaders.
