Tesla’s Fully Autonomous Robotaxi Plans are Being Postponed Until October
Tesla’s fully autonomous robotaxi plans are being delayed once again. It seems like we will have to wait until October for the company’s announcement.
Tesla Delays Elon Musk’s Fully Autonomous Robotaxi Plans Until October
According to leaked information from Tesla, Elon Musk will not announce the long-promised fully autonomous robotaxi until October to give the company’s engineering team more time to build and test prototypes.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk initially set the event for August 8 amid questions about the company’s commitments to more affordable electric vehicles earlier this year. This delay has been communicated internally to Tesla employees but not yet made public. Musk has not made any statements regarding the delay yet.
During a shareholders meeting earlier this year, Musk stated that he believes Tesla is actually an artificial intelligence and robotics company and that he aims to produce robots that serve people in their homes. It is not surprising that he wants to leverage autonomous driving technology for a taxi service. Google offers a similar service through Waymo, but Tesla’s service will operate a bit differently.
Instead of Sitting in the Driveway, It Should Earn Money by Going to Pick People Up!
According to Musk, Tesla owners will be able to benefit from a service where they can send their autonomous vehicles to pick up and drop off passengers personally to earn income from these vehicles. In other words, while a Tesla owner is at home, the autonomous vehicle at the door will pick up customers on its own and make money.
However, Tesla vehicles frequently experience accidents during autonomous driving, which might be the main reason for Musk’s delay in launching the fully autonomous robotaxi service.
