Last Year’s Health Insurance Battle
Last year, Ian Goldstein received a shocking call from CVS, informing him that he owed $23,000 for his Crohn’s disease medication. The news sent him into a despairing spiral. Despite being accustomed to dealing with health care companies for billing mistakes and coverage issues since his teenage diagnosis, this latest incident left him in a panic.
After a frustrating call with the pharmacy, Ian, a 32-year-old comedian and writer from Brooklyn, NY, took a walk to clear his head. Overwhelmed, he had to sit down. “There’s always some clerical error that blocks the whole thing up,” he lamented.
It took months of persistence, with Ian calling CVS three times a week, to finally resolve the issue. This year, upon hitting his insurance deductible, he decided to mark the occasion with a unique celebration.
Celebrating Deductible Milestone
On a hot Sunday in June, Ian hosted a party at the Brooklyn Art Haus, a performance space co-owned by a friend in Williamsburg. Approximately 60 guests gathered for an evening of camaraderie and storytelling, commemorating Ian’s achievement of meeting his health insurance deductible.
“Health care is such a problem, I just felt like celebrating that I’ll get to pay less money now,” Ian remarked, highlighting the relief and joy of overcoming the financial hurdle.
