Swizz Beatz: From Grammy Award-Winning Producer to Camel Racing Enthusiast
Explore the fascinating journey of Swizz Beatz from a Grammy Award-Winning Producer to a passionate Camel Racing Enthusiast. Discover his unique and diverse interests beyond the music world.
As the Arabian Peninsula’s fastest camels thundered around a track in the Saudi desert, Kasseem Dean, a Bronx-born Grammy Award-winning hip-hop producer, stood anxiously in a luxurious V.I.P. viewing hall. The ambiance was elevated with waiters serving lemonade and red velvet cupcakes, while elegantly dressed women socialized on off-white sofas, sipping fizzy mocktails.
While the spotlight was on the sprinting camels, Mr. Dean, known as Swizz Beatz, felt the weight of attention as one of the newest contenders in Saudi Arabia’s affluent camel racing world. Since his debut victory four years ago, he has invested millions in acquiring 48 racing camels, propelling himself into the upper echelons of the sport.
Reflecting on his journey, the 45-year-old artist shared, “When you discover it, you enter into a whole other world.” His racing team, “Saudi Bronx,” has triumphed in competitions across the region, solidifying his bond with the kingdom he first visited in 2006.
Mr. Dean’s frequent visits to Saudi Arabia have led him to consider it a second home. He co-founded a roller-skating rink in AlUla, the picturesque desert retreat hosting the camel race, and maintains an apartment in Riyadh. In recognition of his ties, he was granted Saudi citizenship a few years back.
