Microsoft’s text editing application Notepad, after more than 40 years since its inception in 1983, has finally gained a spell checking feature. This update has been integrated into the Notepad application in Windows 11, allowing it to automatically check spelling errors.

Testing Phase Completed

Microsoft started testing the new spell checking tool in March and began rolling it out to users with the latest updates. Users can disable spell checking in Notepad based on the file type from the settings menu.

WordPad Application Being Removed

Microsoft is updating Notepad as it plans to remove the WordPad application from Windows 11. With these updates, Notepad has been equipped with new features such as dark mode, real tabs, character count, and Copilot integration providing access to artificial intelligence features.
