The clock is ticking for incumbent US President Joe Biden as he faces growing pressure from within his own party to withdraw from the presidential race. Despite the speculation, Biden has remained defiant, vowing to keep running for re-election.

Biden’s Defiance

“Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can: I am running … no one’s pushing me out,” Biden told his staff this week. “I’m not leaving. I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win.”

Excuses and Speculations

Biden and his team have offered a range of excuses for his performance against Donald Trump, from an alleged ‘cold’ to jet lag after extensive travel. He arrived at Camp David a week before the debate.

Pressure from Within

So far, two Democratic lawmakers have openly called on Biden to drop out of the race, while a leading ally has suggested the party might choose someone else.

‘Clear-eyed Conversation’

Senator Chris Coons, Biden’s closest ally, claims they had a direct conversation about the debate and the importance of the election. He advised Biden to do more unscripted events to restore confidence.

Call for Biden to Step Aside

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, a major Democratic donor, has called on Biden to exit the race, stating that a new leader is needed to beat Trump. Representative Jim Clyburn has also mentioned the possibility of a “mini-primary” if Biden were to leave the race.

Democratic Lawmakers’ Stance

Most Democratic lawmakers are taking a wait-and-see approach, holding out for new polling data and Biden’s scheduled ABC News interview to determine the best course of action.
