According to third-party statistics services, although the user base of Windows 11 has started to grow again, the operating system still has not been able to come close to its previous version, which will soon end its official support. However, when we look at the gaming side, Windows 11 seems to have much better performance. In Valve’s latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey, Windows 11 is seen to be very close to becoming the most popular operating system on Steam.
In the June 2024 version of Valve’s Steam survey, Windows 11’s market share increased by 0.55 points and is currently at 46.63%, with the difference to Windows 10 being less than 3%. The aging Windows 10 operating system currently holds approximately 49.42% of all Windows users on Steam. Windows 7 and 8.1 are still present. 64-bit Windows 7 has a share of %0.4 (+0.02), while 64-bit Windows 8.1 has a share of %0.08.
Linux and macOS Usage
Overall, 96.61% of all survey participants reported using Windows to play games on Steam (+0.40). Linux with 2.08% (-0.24) comes in second place, while macOS with 1.31% (-0.16) ranks third.
The Steam Hardware and Software Survey is a monthly survey organized by Valve to help developers better understand the market situation, how to optimize their products, and more. Participation in this survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. Therefore, it should be noted that the information may not be 100% accurate.
Hardware Preferences
Looking at the hardware side in June 2024, it is observed that Intel processors are in the first place with %66.80 (-0.04), AMD is in the second place with %33.15 (-1.54), and Microsoft processors are in the third place with %0.05 (+0.01). The most preferred number of cores in processors is 6 cores with %32.64 (-0.47), followed by 8 cores with %20.61 (-0.57), and 4 cores with %19.27 (-1.32).
16GB RAM continues to be the most preferred RAM amount (%47.23; +0.15), while the option of 32GB RAM is slowly closing the gap (%29.38; 0.66). Nvidia RTX 3060 stands out as the top GPU, followed by Nvidia GTX1650 and Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti.
