Eastern Ukraine’s city of Dnipro was struck by Russian shelling in a daylight attack, resulting in the tragic death of at least five individuals and leaving nearly fifty others injured. The missiles and drones targeted a shopping center in Dnipro on Wednesday, causing windows to shatter and glass shards to fall onto the streets.

Local mayor Borys Filatov reported that in addition to the shopping center, windows were shattered in two schools, three kindergartens, and even a children’s hospital was hit by debris. A video shared on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy captured a missile streaking over Ukraine’s fourth largest city.

The attack left 47 people injured, including a 14-year-old girl, as confirmed by local authorities. Dnipro has been a crucial logistical hub during the ongoing conflict, with Russian forces carrying out multiple deadly assaults against the city and its surrounding areas since the invasion began in 2022.

Continued Violence in Ukraine

Now in its third year, the war in Ukraine has resulted in the tragic deaths of over 10,000 civilians and left another 20,000 individuals wounded, according to the United Nations. The violence persists, with reports of Russian shelling in Kharkiv claiming the life of one person and injuring two others, as stated by regional official Oleh Suniehobv.

IMF Provides Financial Support to Ukraine

On a positive note, Ukraine received €2 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday under an ongoing credit facility, as announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. An additional €14 billion is anticipated as part of the agreement, contingent upon Ukraine’s compliance with IMF reviews assessing progress on economic benchmarks before each disbursement.

The recently received funds will be allocated towards welfare payments, as well as the salaries of healthcare workers and educators, among other uses, Shmyhal highlighted.
