The President of Kosovo Dancing in Celebration of US Independence

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, joined a choreographed dance in Pristina on Tuesday, July 2, in celebration of the 4th of July this week. The rain-soaked dance took place during a reception at the American Embassy to mark the 248th anniversary of US independence.

Kosovo considers the US its strongest Western ally after American troops launched an operation in 1999 that led to the end of Serbian control over the state. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and was recognized by the US as an independent state a day later.

During the event, Osmani delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the US support, stating, “As I often say, this day of independence is not just a proud day for Americans. It is a day of immense gratitude for us here in the Republic of Kosovo.” She also highlighted the pivotal moment 25 years ago when the US intervened to “end the dreadful human suffering” caused by then-Serbian leader Slobodan Milošević’s regime in the region.
