When Jay Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from England, vanished while vacationing on the Spanish island of Tenerife in mid-June, it triggered a series of events that are becoming all too familiar in cases of missing persons.

The search and rescue teams scoured the island, while his family provided emotional updates and unconfirmed sightings added to the mystery. As the official search for Jay Slater was called off after two weeks, online sleuths took to the internet, convinced they could crack the case.

Despite the Spanish authorities halting their search efforts, speculations and conspiracy theories continue to circulate online, causing distress to the family and complicating the investigation process.

Jay Slater had been attending a music festival on Tenerife with a friend, as recounted by his mother, Debbie Duncan, via the organization LBT Global. On the final night of the festival, Jay left with two acquaintances he had made at the event to visit their apartment in a secluded area of the island, according to details shared by his friend Lucy Law on an online fundraising page for his family.

The following morning, Jay informed Lucy over a phone call that he was lost in the mountains, feeling thirsty, and with a dwindling phone battery. Another friend disclosed to the British media that Jay had mentioned descending a “little drop” close to a road. This last communication from Jay Slater was on the morning of June 17, and he has not been heard from since.
