Neonatal Nurse Found Guilty of Attempted Murder of Premature Baby
Shocking news as a neonatal nurse is convicted of the attempted murder of a premature baby. Explore the details of this heartbreaking case and its impact on the medical community.
Lucy Letby, a neonatal nurse convicted last year of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others at the English hospital where she worked, has been found guilty of the attempted murder of another premature baby. The child, known as Baby K to protect her identity, was at the center of the case.
A jury initially failed to reach a verdict on Baby K’s case, leading to a retrial over the last four weeks in a court in Manchester, England. Letby, who is already serving a life term for the previous convictions, will be sentenced on Friday.
Letby, 34, worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital in the city of Chester between June 2015 and June 2016. During this time, an unusually high number of babies in the neonatal unit where she worked either died or became seriously unwell, raising suspicions.
Nicola Wyn Williams, a senior crown prosecutor, highlighted Letby’s denial of attempting to harm Baby K and the other babies she was convicted of harming. Despite this, the jury reached their verdict. Williams expressed sympathy for Baby K’s family, acknowledging the unimaginable grief they have endured.
